Last week, my healthy lifestyle went a bit awry.
I drank red wine and beer, ate biscuits and crisps and went to bed very late and got up too early. I confessed to this behaviour in last week's newsletter and committed to getting back on track this week.
I am happy to report that since Thursday, I have been altogether better behaved and on something of a bean feast! On Thursday I made a delicious black-eyed bean stew with celery, leeks, tomato, broccoli, ginger and lots of fresh coriander. Then over the weekend, I had my version of beans on toast as well as a brown rice, tuna and kidney bean salad with steamed runner beans and broccoli.
Today, I went on a mercy mission to my ex-boyfriend, Rory's place. He has tonsilitis so can't swallow anything solid and the only 'food' he has in the fridge is a pizza! I took a load of ingredients with me and cooked him up a yummy chicken, cabbage and broccoli soup flavoured with tarragon and marjoram. It also had leek, onion and garlic for extra healing and flavour. Inspired, I made myself a chicken-free version once I got back home which I had with a couple of slices of Terence Stamp's wheat-free bread.
So, so far so good. Except I did have a couple more glasses of red wine over the weekend. If you are in perfect health, red wine is unlikely to be a problem, but I can feel my insides complaining as soon as I drink it. So why do I continue to do it!??
I have my theory. I tend to go this way - a bit self-sabotagey - when I am feeling down or stressed and I'm feeling both of those at the moment. Not a lot - but a bit. This weekend really helped to reduce those emotions because I tackled a big pile of paperwork that was stacking up in the corner of the room. By this morning, the only papers left out and unfiled, were those I had to action and I dealt with all of them before I left for Rory's. Interestingly, I've not touched any red wine tonight despite there being an opened bottle next door in the kitchen.
The next thing to address is exercise. It's Monday today and I haven't worked out since Thursday. Tomorrow I intend to be able to blog again saying that I have exercised!
