Here's a clue - it's nothing to do with 70s Scouser hairstyles!
A permalink is the specific web address for a post on a blog.
If you look down to the bottom of this post, you will see the word Permalink as a link... that's it, right after the date this entry was posted and the 'category' it appears in. Now if you are reading this soon after it was published, or after clicking on the Blogging Basics category link, then chances are it appears as just one of several posts on the page.
But if you click on the 'Permalink' link at the bottom, it will appear on a page on its own, with a comment form below it. Why do you need to know this?
Well, it can be a very useful thing. Imagine for a moment that a month ago you posted an entry about a new product you'd just launched and you've blogged every day since then. Before long, depending on your blog settings, that post will disappear from view. But you still want to promote your product - so what can you do? Well, here's exactly what you can do - in step by step detail.
- First of all, locate the original blog entry and click on 'Permalink'.
- Click your cursor into the address bar at the top of the page, then right click and 'copy.'
- Next, create a TypeList to go in one of the side panels and add a link title eg. my fab new product.
- Now click your cursor into the field marked 'link url' and 'paste'.
- Save your changes and hey presto - you have a permanent link to the hidden post!
