So here it is... first post since June 15th - absolute aeons in blogging terms. That's just short of 6 weeks without posting. Curiously, my inactivity on the blog does not appear to have had any negative effect on my stats - in fact, traffic is up, as are subscribers!
"How can that possibly be?" I hear you cry. After all, haven't the experts always told us we should be blogging at least twice a week? Well yes... by and large, there's sense in that kind of frequency, although I would add that one really useful post a month is of more value than 25 'throwaway' ones - in some audiences and markets. So that could explain it, but I don't think so... I'm fairly sure that traffic is up because whilst I've been quiet here on the blogsite, I've been getting busy with lots of other exciting social media.
It didn't start as a marketing experiment - my silence. Initially, it was a time issue - client work, 'social networking' and 'real life' taking priority in my schedule. Then as time went on and I looked at the stats, I was struck by the potential power of so many of these Web 2.0 tools in a business context - some of them obviously, but others in surprising ways - all of them adding to the social media marketing possibilities. So I decided to keep away from the blog and I hung out instead in various new communities seeing what could be achieved. Now I can share my thoughts with you.
Before you say anything, I do appreciate that all this is far from scientific, and to an extent I'm still playing and making my judgements, but overall I think the signs are really very good. It's late now and I have a training video to complete, so I'm going to end here, but starting tomorrow, I intend to share with you some of the places I've been and things I've discovered.
